North Dakota State has its first commitment for the Class of 2020 and it’s a familiar name to the Bison football program.

Fargo Davies senior Ty Davies announced his verbal commitment to the Bison on Twitter Thursday night. The 6’1, 185 pound wide receiver and defensive back was an all-state selection in 2018, leading the EDC with nine receiving touchdowns. He’s the son of NDSU Hall of Fame running back Tony, who helped the Bison win national championships in 1988 and 1990. Satter was inducted into the Bison Hall of Fame in 2011, he still ranks as the seventh leading rusher in school history.
Ty Satter is projected to play defense in college as a safety. He had four interceptions last season for the Eagles, including one returned for a touchdown. This is the second straight year a Davies player has committed to NDSU, Jaden Klabo signed to play at NDSU in February, he’ll be a freshman this upcoming fall.
Satter’s commitment marks the earliest for NDSU in the Division 1 era. Here’s a look at the first commitments for the Bison over the last five years:
- 2019 – May 16 (Ty Satter)
- 2018 – June 6 (Luke Weerts)
- 2017 – May 23 (Trey Lance)
- 2016 – May 22 (Spencer Waege)
- 2015 – June 21 (Karson Schoening)
Satter held offers from both NDSU and UND but told me he’s grown up around Bison football his entire life and “couldn’t imagine going anywhere else.” NDSU has at least 20 known offers extended at this time, Satter was the only North Dakotan to hold an offer. Many believe this year isn’t a huge year for the state in Division 1 talent. The Bison are eyeing two northwest Minnesota players that have FBS offers in Moorhead’s Seth Anderson and Ada-Borup’s Mason Miller.
