Alrighty let’s crank some stats out and get caught up in anticipation of Monday’s release of the Missouri Valley Preseason Poll; which I’ll unveil my poll tomorrow during the Sunday Night Ramblings.

Ryan Smith; one of the many playmakers that’s helped NDSU score 37 or more points 12 times over the last two seasons. (Dave Samson – Forum File Photo)

Countdown To 2013: NerdStat #37:

  • 12: That number is significant because that’s the amount of times NDSU has scored 37 points or more in a game over the last two seasons (6 each in 2011 and 2012) with the high being the 66 laid on Prairie View last September. Compare to that to the two seasons prior which totaled 6 in 2009 and 2010 and you can see an offense that has evolved and improved with better playmakers at the skill positions. NDSU has always been a running team and nothing will change about that in the coming seasons; but the ability to throw the ball and get it downfield has certainly changed from the offensively challenged year of 2010.  Another interesting stat to look at is the last time NDSU scored 37 or more in a game and lost? That was 2009; at Sam Houston State a 48-45 game where the Bison allowed more than 400 rushing yards; the Bison haven’t come close in the last 3 years to allowing that many points in a game last year’s high was 21. Who will score the most points on NDSU this year and how much? My money is on Kansas State; just not sure the amount yet.
